Carol Nelles made these wonderful scones for Kevin’s 50th birthday party weekend. They have become a family favorite thanks to Meg our family baker. They are wonderful to bake at the cottage. This recipe makes 8 scones.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 2 teaspoons of grated orange peel
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 egg slightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Directions
- Heat oven to 400F.
- Lightly grease cookie sheet.
- In a large bowl,combine flour, sugar, baking powder and orange peel. Using pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add milk and egg. With fork stir until mixture leaves sides of bowl and soft dough forms.
- On floured surface, gently knead dough 10 times. Place on grease cookie sheet.
- Roll or pat into 6 inch circle.
- Sprinkle dough with 1 tbsp of sugar.
- Cut dough into 8 wedges. Separate slightly
- Bake at 400F for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm.
